Utah Woman Receives Lengthy Sentence for Trafficking Cocaine at Omaha Bus Station
Omaha, NE (Feb 18, 2023) – A Utah woman was sentenced to federal prison for possessing nearly five pounds of cocaine at an Omaha bus station. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska, the woman, identified as 24-year-old Katelyn Marie Smith, was sentenced to five years in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Smith was arrested in August 2020 after a search of her luggage at the Omaha bus station revealed nearly five pounds of cocaine. She was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and pleaded guilty in December 2020.
At her sentencing hearing, Smith was ordered to serve five years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and to forfeit the cocaine seized from her.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Omaha Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert C. Stuart.
